Measure the route, not just the furniture
Before moving a large sofa, bed frame, table, or appliance, measure the doorways, hallways, elevators, and turns it needs to pass through. The new location matters just as much as the old one. If a piece will not fit through the expected route, knowing early gives you more options.
Decide what needs to come apart
Bed frames, dining tables, desks, and shelving may need to be disassembled. Let the moving team know in advance if you expect this work. Keep hardware in labelled bags and attach it securely to the main piece where practical. Do not leave loose screws, shelves, or cables in drawers.
Empty and secure what you can
Remove loose items from drawers, shelves, and cabinets unless you have confirmed they can stay in place. Empty glass display cabinets and protect fragile components separately. Doors, drawers, and removable parts should be secured so they do not open or shift during the move.
Prepare appliances properly
Check the manufacturer’s instructions before moving a refrigerator, washer, dryer, or other large appliance. A refrigerator usually needs time to defrost and dry. Appliances that have water, gas, or electrical connections may need qualified disconnection before moving day.
Flag special items early
Pianos, safes, hot tubs, motorcycles, antique furniture, oversized office equipment, and unusually heavy pieces need more information before they are scheduled. Photos, measurements, access notes, and an honest description of the item help determine what is possible.
